Live clone or mirror virtual servers?

We are looking for a way to mirror or have a live clone for one of our production servers. We really want a backup server that is continuously cloned/mirrored from the production server so in the event of failure or whatever it will either 1. automatically become production, or 2. be easy to put into production with just an IP switch or something.

Anyone have ideas on how to do this with virtual machines?

You have two options:

1) Live clone: use the Fault Tolerance (FT) feature -> VMware Fault Tolerance FAQ (1013428) | VMware KB

2) Mirror: use vSphere Replication (VR) feature -> vSphere Replication FAQ (2005776) | VMware KB

Thanks, the fault tolerance is something we apparently have and never used!
