Live VM Clone - what happens?

How does a Live clone (ex: of a Linux Server) work under the hood?

Does it halt the I/O of the source Server at any point in time?

Should the source VM ideally be shut or it makes no real difference?

What are the best practices ?

From what I see it does the following at the very minimum...

A snapshot is created on the Source VM and the new VM gets assigned a new BIOS and Instance UUID, then finally the snapshot is removed.

Is the snapshot taken with quiesce enabled?

What if the Source VM is a DB Server, is it still safe to take a create a live clone?
