Linux Kernel Panic on install

Hi,

I'm running an ESXi 4.1 cluster with several Win2008 64bit VMs working happily. I'm trying to install a Linux VM but I am having issues. I boot the VM from an ISO file, it gets to the boot menu and then starts booting into the installer. Part way through the boot the kernel panics. Smiley Sad It does this every time. I've tried Oracle Enterprise Linux R5 U5 and CentOS 5.5 and they both have the same problem. I had a Fedora 12 ISO file kicking around that I tried and that works, but I would prefer to use an enterprise server version of linux.

Any idea what the problem might be? Screen shot of the panic attached.

TIA!

Julian.

If you aren't already, try using Other Linux as the VM OS type.

Try the install with a minimal amout of RAM?? I have seen some recent post on some Ubuntu kernel issues. It is possible these are similar. It is is a problem with the kernel and not a VMware problem. If you have or can get a 5.4 release and give it a try.

The VM was configured with the default amount of RAM (384MB if I remember correctly).

That's a good idea about trying the previous version. I'll download v5.4.
