Licensing Esxi 5.1

Hi,

At present I have a VCentre 5 server with existing 4.1 ESX hosts all  licensed.  I've purchased a new host, installed 5.1 ESXi and added it to the existing cluster and am now trying to license it.  In the license manager I can see my available licenses but I'm unable to assign them, they remain greyed out.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I'm missing?

Cheers,

Gareth

Ok, so you have the ESXi 5.x licenses keys in vCenter ... How many licenses do you have?

And for how many hosts are they? How many CPU's need to be licenses per host?

It's possible you need to combine license keys when your hosts have multiple CPU's.

You need to upgrade your existing 4.1 licenses to 5.1 before you can use them ... You can do this online in your "My VMware" account.

I've purchased new licenses for this host and they show up as version 5 enterprise.
