I have an ESXi, 5.1.0, 1065491 installed - which works fine.
To get these host managed through vCenter I buyed an ESX VSphere Essential Package (not plus), which was named VS5-ESSL-BUN-C .
If I try to put on the new Licence Key, I will get the following error message:
... Licence is not valid for this product.
So, what's wrong. Did I have the wrong esx Version installled on my host?
Thanks for any reply.
Regards Markus
How many ESXi are there in your environment
what are the features you are using.
Venkat
This is the first ESXi, 5.1.0, 1065491 host.
Because it is only a free Hypervisor, I have only placed severeral VM's on it.
To get more funktionality I want to put a VMware vSphere Essential licence on this host - but it won't worked.
Hi,
does your host have more than 2 CPUs?
Regards
No.
1 Processor Socket (physical)
6 Cores + Hyperthreading = active
= 12 locial processors
The Essentials packages contain separate keys for vCenter Server as well as those for the ESXi hosts. Please double-check you are using the ESXi CPU license key if you are trying to enter the licenses directly on the host.

That would also be my first guess. I think you're using the vCenter server foundation license.
I got only one Key for VMware vSphere Ess 1yr E-LTU from VMware.
Only a guess. Depending on how you purchased the licence it may either be already registered to your My VMware account (where you should see the different license keys, or you may need to register the key you got in the portal. Did you receive some information on how to proceed with the license?
