Hi Everyone,
Learning how to setup vmware esxi 5.0 server at home, and all is good so fare.
Iv;e got 2 images loaded and running (SuSE Linux and a Windows 7)
I've downloaded the vmware view client and installed on my Windows 7. iMac, iPad devices, but cannot access the installed vm's.
Any guidance appreciated on how to access the vm from a workstation as if it was a regular "deskop". I have the vmware vsphere client installed, and it is running fine.
Thanks,
Johnny
Vcenter server doesn't seem to have a trial/eval version, so I'm going to have to learn some other way.
vCenter is avilable on a trial version. Proabably you can setup ESXi enviroment first and thne start with View

Welcome to the Community,
I'm afraid you are missing a couple of steps to run VMware View. Please take a look at e.g. http://pubs.vmware.com/view-50/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.view.planning.doc/GUID-E03736AF-5905-4AC1... to find out what's required for a VMware View environment.

If I am right, I think you have to requirement to download VMware player or Workstation to have the VMs individually running on desktops. Again as mentioned by AP, the setup for View is quite different.
Hi Andre,
lol, I think im missing about 13 steps according to the docs ![]()
wow, i didn't think it would be this complicated or require so many other apps. Vcenter server doesn't seem to have a trial/eval version, so I'm going to have to learn some other way.
Thanks for you help.

Johnny,
Not sure what your whole goal is of using VMware View. I learned ESXi through VMware Workstation. You can run a 60 day trial of Enterprise +. vCenter server IS available as a trial, you just have to signup for it once you login to myvmware. What part are you having troubles with?

Hi,
Thanks for the information and help, appreciated.
I have esxi running great On a workstation I have. It has 2 vm's on it that I manage with vsphere manager client.
Probably didn't word it correctly, I wanted to experiment with deploying a virtualized windows 7 desktop for example... Same concept as Microsoft terminal services and RDP.
So basically on the employees iPad or other device, they can fire up windows and run our erp software.
The missing link was the vcenter software to enable this, so I should be good to go.
Johnny
