Hi all,
I have a question, when I present a LUN to a server, I mean, if I make a LUN of by exemple 120G, I presented it to a server and on that server the LUN (disk) have 115G
If I should have 120G instead of 115G when I presented my LUN to that server, what's the % I should add on my LUN when I created it to have 120G sharp on the server?
Maybe someone else has the mathematical formula?
I have a lot of LUN to make with a sharp size
Thanks for your help
Hi,
As per your query first of all the formula is as below
(Size of virtual machine's hard disk(s)) + (size of RAM for virtual machine) + (100MB for log files per virtual machine)
ie for example
120 GB (your requried vmdk file ) + 2 GB (Depending on the Memory size of VM ) + 100 MB (logs files) = 122.1 GB
vmfs volume has a overhead size on the storage (metadata etc).
But, i think, that in your case sizes are different because hardware manufacturer and vmware uses different GB (1000 MB for manufacturer &1024 MB for vmware), so 120 * 1000 / 1024 = 117 very close to your values
