Issues joining VMs to domain

We recently used the installable version of ESXi 4 on a HP DL380 G6, configured VLANs and made the required network changes, created a LUN and assigned each VM space on the datastore, etc.

The host can be reached fine with vSphere Client, from within the VMs we can ping the domain controllers (physical machines), gateways of the VLANs, the VMs also got internet connectivity, etc.

However, if I try to join the VMs to e.g. mydomain.local I receive the same error message on each of the VMs:

"The following error occured attempting to join the mydomain.local. The specified server cannot perform the requested operation"

After this error message a disabled computer object is visible in AD, but appears to be blank - contains no DNS name, etc.

I believe we've overlooked something. Any ideas??

Yes, we use the same time source and DNS addresses we used for the physical servers in the past (and still do).

After a while I entered the domain name in the DNS suffix of each of the 3 network adapters, but that also generated the same error message.

In the NIC settings try adding the Domain Controller's IP address to "Preferred DNS Server" box

Click the "Advanced" button and on the DNS.

In the box titled DNS suffix for this connection add your FQDN
