Hello,
I am having an issue with one of the ESXi 4.1 host when I try and install the DELL MEM pack for EqualLogic.
Error:
Installing packages: cross_oe.. ########################################################### [100%]
Encountered error VisorSetupError:
The error data is:
Message - Could not clean up staging dir /tmp/stage: [Errno 20] Not a directory: '/tmp/stage/oemstage/usr/lib/ext/dell/srvadmin/var/lib/openmanage/log'
Errno - 17
Description - There was an error setting up ESXi installation destination
The command I am running from Putty connection is below:
esxupdate --bundle==dell-eql-mem-esx4-1.1.2.292203.zip update
This has working fine on the other five hosts.
I have checked free disk space, and there is plenty of space.
Ideas/suggests please?
Thanks for your help Julien but due to time constraints I just took a host profile and rebuilt the hosts.

Hi,
Did you check here? maybe an issue with your temp directory.
Regards,
Julien.
Hi Julien,
I have tried this but it still returns the exact same error.
Regards,
Tim
Can you attach the /var/log/messages please and just before please repeat the installation process.
Then try to reboot your host.
Thank you.
Regards,
Julien
I have attached to the original message.
Many Thanks
Tim
I think you defenitly have an issue with you scratch.
esxupdate: esxupdate: ERROR: An esxupdate error exception was caught: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/sbin/esxupdate", line 257,
Can you try to reboot your host and try again.
Then check here : VMware KB: Creating a persistent scratch location for ESXi 4.x and 5.x
Do you have the same build version of VMware installed on your hosts.
Regards,
Julien
After doing this the error changed slightly as it had to unpack the zip due to the new location, but the same error has remained.
All of the ESXi hosts are the exact same build version (4.1.0,348481).

Tim
Interestingly I have just run the command
vim-cmd hostsvc/advopt/view ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation
and the output was
(vim.option.OptionValue) []
I put the configuration in via vClient previously. I have checked the datastore folder I created and it does have files in the folder post install attempt.
Regards,
Tim
can you attach the message.log file please?
But if your scratch config output is empty you need to configure a new one. Can you try to simply reboot your host?
Regards,
Julien.
I have attached the message log after rebooting and trying again.
I am slightly confused. If it has no value why has it then created files under that new directory during the installation?
Would you like me to try and configure persistent scratch location via Putty instead of via the vClient?
I have also checked via the vClient and it does still have the new configuration I entered.

Tim
