Hi Team,
Could anyone suggest me if vmotion and storage vmtion is possible between two different data centers part of same Virtual center server?. The Vcenter I am referring is 4.1 and later. The vmkernal port group is in same VLAN and both the DC hosts will be using same shared SAN storage?
Thanks in advance
Cheers,
Shyju.
If you mean the vSphere datacenter objects, no, you cannot vMotion between those.
If you mean physical datacenters, it's possible, but it's not trivial. Long distance vMotion was demoed at VMworld a couple years ago by VMware/Cisco, and I know F5 has been showing this off for a little while too. Check the HCL for your SAN -- they've added a category for metro cluster storage.
Duncan Epping did a nice overview of metro/stretched clusters that covers the basics from the HA side of things, and he has a couple good links in there.
