Is an ESX 5.1 Windows guest able to burn cd/dvd?

I'm guessing I already know the answer to this, but I have a DVD burner in my host machine, and was hoping I might be able to access it to burn a disc from a Windows guest. So I set configured the guest with a CD/DVD drive and pointed it to the host device, but in the Windows guest the drive shows up as "NECVMWar VMware IDE CDR10 ATA Device" and I don't seem to be able to burn to it.

Is burning to a host drive unsupported in ESX?

Thx in advance for any answers..

Hi,

Unfortunately not,

To access the host CD-rom passthrough mode as you probably know is required which doesnt support writing to Cd/dvd's - emulation mode does but

that doesnt help you in this instance (talks about vsphere 4 below but is applicable to 5.1)
