Intermittent Network

Hi all,

I've been troubleshooting a Guest (Server 2003 R2 x86) that would only respond to one ping and then time out on the rest. I thought of an issue I had previously where the old NIC was causing issues with having the same Gateway, so removed the hidden device from Device Manager in Guest. After a reboot of that, I got a 'Dulpicate IP' error on boot.

After some searching, I came accros this post: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1100751#1100751 which got me thinking, maybe it's a MAC problem. I'm unsure though as to what I should be looking for on this, it mentions ethernet0.generatedAddress could be wrong. So I opened up the VMX file and compared ethernet0.generatedAddress with the MAC showing in IPCONFIG, both different. So to test this further, I looked at the VMX file on the DC and it too is different but not having any problems.

Does someone know what I should be looking for in the VMX file to identify if this is the problem?

Thanks,
