We just created a new virtual machine on vSphere and are having a strange problem. The vm is running Windows 2008 (not R2) and the networking seems to time out intermitantly. When this happens, the vm is offline for 10 seconds to 5 minutes. We have tried using different subnets and the problem still occurs. The problem shows up in trying to ping the server or pinging from the server. We have not noticed this happening on any other of our vms, including a Windows 2008 R2 vm. What do I need to check to see why the problem is occurring?
Check to see if power-saving is enabled on the NIC
Check to see if power-saving is enabled on the NIC
Sorry, the problem is still occurring with the power saving turned off.
Are there other VMs on this host? If so, I assume they don't lose connectivity? Is there anything in the Event log or the vCenter Tasks & Events?
How many ports is your vSwitch configured for? Are you exceeding this with your virtual machines (esxcfg-vswitch -l)
No other VMs on the host have the same issue. I think I have solved it, I changed the last octet of the IP address from 50 and the issue seems to have stopped. Strangely, x.x.x.50 on two different 3rd octets had the same problem.
Good. I had a similar issue years ago - entered address as .025 but Windows changed it to .250
