Intel Matrix Storage Manager ICH9R RAID 1, both Disks available?

Hello,

I believe the ICH9R SATA raid controller is supported, but I have 3 x SATA HDD in my machine.

1 x HDD (non RAID) for ESX4i installation

2 x HDD (RAID 1) for datastore

However, the ADD storage setup can see all 3 HDD's?

This embedded SATA controller is on an Tyan S5375 mainboard.

Has anyone encountered this kind issue before?

Thanks

Phil

ICHx RAID is software driven (requiring the host CPU to process it). ESX(i) doesn't support this; only true hardware RAID.

As you have seen, the disks can be used individually of course. You may also want to consider running ESXi from a USB flash disk to save a disk bay.

Please award points to any useful answer.

As written before soft RAID isn't supported at ESX level.

Use the disks as normal disk.

Or buy a real RAID card.

For SD installation of ESXi see also:
