Installing first vSphere 5 environment

Hi,

I am installing my first vSphere environment.

I have the following setup:

- 2 x HP Proliant DL380 G7 (1 x 6 core CPU and 72GB RAM per server)

- 1 x HP P2000 G3 SAS with 12 x 300GB 10K SAS hard drives configured as one RAID5 array

There will be about 10 virtual machines in this setup. Both servers has ESXi 5 now and vCenter is a virtual machine in this cluster.

How should I configure the network? I have 4 NICs per server. E.g. for vMotion traffic can I just plug a network cable from server 1 NIC to server 2 NIC and configure IP address to same subnet? Would it work this way?

If all the four NIC are of same gigabyte speed, then you can use the below.

vSwitch0 with 2 NIC's (vmnic0 and vmnic1) teaming with below config:-

Management port group - vmnic0 active & vmnic1 standby

vMotoin - vminc1 Active and vmnic0 standby

vSwitch1 with anohter 2 nics (vmnic2 and vmnic 3) teaming with below config:-

Virtual machine port gorup - vminc2 & vmnic3 active-active
