Installing device drivers in ESX 4 console

Can anyone explain how this is done?

ESX should have all the proper device drivers for any hardware listed on the HCL.

my problem is, I already have installed the ESX host and now i'm trying to add in new hardware (SATA II PCIe controller card w/ 1TB drive) but when i try to add the new datastore my ESX host doesn't see it

Hello,

Remember adding a driver into the SC does NOT add it into the vmkernel. The vmkernel is where you need the driver to be to see your SATA device. You either need a prebuilt driver from VMware, your vendor (not sure I would use this), or one you built following the vmkernel build procedures (again not something most people can access) to add drivers into the vmkernel.

Your SATA device is most likely not on the HCL, tha tis the cause of the issue.
