Installing/Updating VMTools in vSphere 8

Hi there
I made a clean install of vsphere 8 right when it came out and I'm very happy with it so far. Today I've found out there came out an update, which I installed right away. There was a message, that one vim named "tools-light-xxxxx" has not been installed. So far so good... I then found out that VMware Tools have not been installed on my vsphere instance. I then googled around and struggled a little bit in order to find and install an actual offline package of VMware Tools. Now, it has been installed and I've been able to update the VMware Tools inside my VM's. During my google searches I came across https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/87647. I checked the "reserved directories" and found the following:

[root@nuc01:/var/db/esximg/reservedVibs] ll
total 12
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           512 Jun 15 15:17 .
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           512 Jun 15 15:17 ..
-r--r--r--    1 root     root          2428 Feb 16 11:02 tools-light-7080693580427145671.xml
-r--r--r--    1 root     root             0 Feb 16 11:02 tools-light-7080693580427145671.xml.orig
-r--r--r--    1 root     root             0 Feb 16 11:02 tools-light-7080693580427145671.xml.sig
[root@nuc01:/var/db/esximg/reservedVibs] cd ..
[root@nuc01:/var/db/esximg] cd reservedComponents/
[root@nuc01:/var/db/esximg/reservedComponents] ll
total 12
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           512 Jun 15 15:17 .
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           512 Jun 15 15:17 ..
-r--r--r--    1 root     root           874 Feb 16 11:02 VMware-VM-Tools-4221038898509494502.xml

Both the component- and the vim-directory contain xml-files of old versions and I don't know exactly that these directories are for. Is there any possibility to delete those xml-files as they are referencing older versions of VMware Tools that I'd rather not want on my server? Does anybody know the purpose of these directories?

I'm grateful for any hint, thank you experts!
