Please provide some details. Which RAID controller (vendor/model) do you use? What's the size of the RAID0 logical volume? Did you try to cleanup the logical volume from any previously existing partitioning information (if any)?
André
Sure thing,
The drive is by itself as RAID0 under management of LSI MegaRAID. The logical volume size is the size of the physical disk, which is 600GB ~560GB configured. The drive is brand new, there is no partition on it of any kind, it went straight from packaging into the server.
This is the whole error
Call "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateVmfsDatastore" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "172.20.2.120" failed.
Operation failed, diagnostics report: Unable to create Filesystem, please see VMkernel log for more details: Input/output error
I'd suggest you boot the system from a Live-CD or DVD like gParted and explicitly clear the partition table to ensure there are no remaining unexpected "dirty" bits, which might cause the issue. Alternatively you could use e.g. a Windows 2008 DVD to boot from and once the language selection shows up, press Shift-F10 to open a command prompt, run diskpart, select the disk and run the clean command.

Thanks for the help. Reformatting the drive in the Windows OS configured on the main RAID array and rebooting into ESXi, then using VSphere to create a data store, worked.
Great to hear it worked. Thanks for the feedback.
