Just installed ESXi 4.0 on my new ML150. I have ESXi installed on a SATA drive connected to the motherboard. I also have (8) 1.5TB SATA drives connected to the SmartArray E200 as one RAID5 array.
In the vSphere Client, I can see the drive that ESXi is installed on. I also can see the E200 controller. Problem is, when I go to "add storage", there are no drives/LUNs listed.
Really frustrating that ESXi is being this difficult. I am getting to the point where I might just give up and go back to Server... ;-(
Help?
One issue is the maximum LUN size that ESX(i) currently supports which is 2 TB - 512B. You'll want to create smaller LUNs and then after you reboot ESXi you should be able to go to Configuration \ Storage Adapters, select the P200 and see those arrays.

Do you have a system or PCI card working with VMDirectPath? Submit your specs to the Unofficial VMDirectPath HCL - http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21.

Isn't the issue that he is using an E200, rather than a real RAID controller? Like a P400, etc.
Looks like even true ESX has this limit. Who would have thunk. Guess I get multiple LUNs and span them with a volume. Thanks!!
I believe the E200 is a "real" controller. It has its own co-processor and battery backed up cache module.
Did find an issue with the E200 card though. Seems I can make only one array via the BIOS interface. ;-(
Guess I have to go back to Sever or Server 2, sux.
