Increasing the Hard Disk size for a Windows 2008 R2 Server VM

We are using ESXi 4.1.0, 260247.

We have a Windows Server 2008 R2 running as a PDC with Exchange 2010 installed. This vm has been assigned a 195GB HD. Windows has been partitioned with a 70GB C: (OS, System & log files) and 125GB 😧 (Exchange DBs). See attached pictures for the VMware setup and Windows setup. Both volumes are running out of space.

If we increase the size of the virtual hard disk for this particular vm (approx. by 100GB) - will Windows accept this (booting, AD, Exchange...) and will we be able to change the partition size for both the C: & 😧 volumes or can we only create a new volume?

Thanks for your help and tips.

For resizing the C: volume you will need to restart the VM.

In generell: Dont use partitioning with virtual disks. Use a seperate disk for each drive.

Hi,

Yes, you can increase the size of the harddisk and then use partition magic for extending system drives as required.

Thanks
