Implementing BitLocker in Windows Server 2012 R2 File Server on VMware ?

Hi All,

Does anyone here use Microsoft BitLocker to encrypt the Data drive of the File server Virtual machine ?

I'd like to enable the BitLocker on the 2 TB Physical RDM LUN that is presented to the VM as NTFS D:\ drive.

My understanding when reading this KB article: VMware KB: BitLocker support in a virtual machine is that it only supports for all data drive not the OS boot drive. So if the Bitlocker is used in any other drive it is still supported by both Microsoft and VMware.

can someone please clarify the statement above or share your experience ?

Thanks.

I can't say anything about Microsoft's support of the feature, but BitLocker works in a VM for both data drives and the OS drive.  Search the web for instructions on enabling BitLocker without a compatible TPM.

So far I can only found this one: VMware KB: BitLocker support in a virtual machine and From the Kb article above it is only working or supported for Non C:\ drive only.
