IBM Storwize V3700 SAS and LSI MegaRAID 9280-8e on hosts. How to config Shared SAS?

Hi!

I'm trying to build a new HA cluster with vSphere 5.5 or 6.0. We have two hosts with LSI MegaRAID 9280-8e controllers and IBM Storwize V3700 as a Shared SAS. The host is connected to both node canisters on v3700, still only one path is active.

The problem is the ESX host can't see the volume on v3700 until I go to LSI's WebBIOS and set the volume as a RAID 0. But then the Storage section in vSphere Client shows the volume as Local LSI Disk and the SATP is set to VMW_SATP_LOCAL. AFAIK, the shared SAS should be VMW_SATP_ALUA. These IBM and LSI hardware present in HCL. The LSI controller is detected as MegaRAID SAS Gen2 Controller.

Am I doing something wrong? Maybe the 9280-8e is not suitable for this configuration?

Unless I'm missing something, this controller is not supported for IBM V3700 direct attach, see Table #13: https://lenovopress.com/tips1300-ibm-storwize-v3700-for-lenovo

And event the HCL for the adapter shows the IBM V3700 as compatible, from IBM specifically it list only expansion enclosures like EXP3512 and EXP3524, see: MegaRAID 6Gb/s 9260 SAS Controllers (Interoperability Report) (227 KB)
