I need help with esxi + xendesktop for vdi

im doing a project at uni and as part of it trying to set up a vdi environment.

i have been trying to use esxi as the hypervisor and xen desktop for the VDI.

i have run in to issues with citrix desktop, when it tries to connect to the hypervisor it requires the use of an SSL certificate.

from the citrix knowledge base this needs manually adding, it requires this getting form the vCenter server which i can seem to find is this because it is not available with the free esxi 5? and is there any way around this?

the text from the KB is below, i would really appreciate any help

http://support.citrix.com/proddocs/topic/xendesktop-rho/cds-vmware-rho.html

  1. Add the fully qualified      domain name (FQDN) of the computer running vCenter Server to the hosts      file on that server, located at      %SystemRoot%/WINDOWS/system32/Drivers/etc/. Note that this step is      required only if the FQDN of the computer running vCenter Server is not      already present in the domain name system.
  2. Open Internet Explorer and      enter the address of the computer running vCenter Server as https://FQDN.
  3. Accept the security      warnings.
  4. Click the Certificate Error      in the Security Status bar and select View certificates.
  5. Click Install certificate,      and then click Next.
  6. Select Place all      certificates in the following store, and then click Browse.
  7. Select the Show physical      stores check box.
  8. Expand Trusted People and      select Local Computer.
  9. Click OK, and then click      Finish.

Hi,

I don´t know if i undersand correctly your problem.

First, to add a xendesktop, you will need to use a vcenter server, it is not possible to use the esxi host directly;

Second, if you have a vcenter server, your ssl certificate must be issued to the name of the server, for exemple, if you have a vcenter called vcenter.company.local your ssl certificated must be issued to the name of this server.

please, let me know if you need something more.

thanks

you can install it in windows server or vcenter virtual applicance (VCVA)

would that have to be instaled on one of the virtual mashines or just my non-domian desktop that i use to remote in to the esxi box?

sorry if these are a bit basic but its the first time using this technology.

No it is not necessary.

The vmware virtual appeliance (VCVA) is a .ovf and vmdk files that you import in your esxi server, for the virtual applicance is not necessary to have a active directory domain.

the windows installation can be in any windows server, but the windows must be in a active directory domain.

if you have any problem, you can contact me

Thanks

Hi,

Are you using esxi version 5?

Did you downlod the three files for vcenter virtual aplliance (OVF + 2 vmdk) and put them in the same folder?

I have never seen this error before.

Thanks
