I need help to pick a license

Hello,

We have 3 servers with 12 CPUs, 30GB ram, and 1TB HDD.
need to split them to VM with 2 CPUs each

What kind of license do I need to buy?

Thanks

Presumably you are thinking of using vSphere / ESXi?

Do you also want to be able to manage the hosts centrally using vCenter Server?

Hi @scott28tt

Thank you for your answer

I think of using ESXi

And it would be nice to be able to see what it would be with and without vCenter

I'm afraid that I do not really understand the requirement.
Can you please explain that?

ESXi is basically licensed by the number of physical sockets (CPUs), and vCenter Server by instances.

"...We have 3 servers with 12 CPUs..."

Does it mean you have three 4 socket hosts? With only 30GB i expect one or two socket hosts and each hosts have 12 Cores and 30GB?

There is a two entry level bundles available:

  1. vCenter Essentials: up to 3 Hosts with max. 2 Sockets and each socket 32 Core together with a single vCenter instance. Its around 470,- bucks and 65,- for the 1Y subscription
  2. vCenter Essentials PLUS: Same as above but for people which have shared storage like SAN/NAS so it contains vMotion and HA. Costs $$$$ and you need to by Support also
