Hypervisor CPU Overhead

How much CPU resources are reserved for the ESXi hosts? I have a cluster that shows total CPU resources is 672 GHz in the Summary tab, but when I go to the Resource Allocation tab, the total capacity is only 624 GHz. I am basically losing 2 whole cores per ESXi host in the cluster. Memory on the other hand is nearly identical.

Check the System resource allocation of esxi hosts, this will give you sum of total and available resources on host.

its an expected behavior. Please find the details in following KB.

The ESXi Summary tab and Resource Allocation tab do not show the same values for memory and CPU (208...

the different is because an esxi host is treated as a resource pool when you see at cluster level.

There is only 200 MHz reserved in the System Resource Reservation, but I am losing 4 GHz per ESXi host.

I understand that it is expected behavior, but that seems like a lot of resources given up.
