How to use Vmotion in Vsphere 6.0 for live migration of VMs

Hi All,

i am new to Vsphere ESXi 6.0 and i am trying for live migration of VM . Plz help me for it. How can i use VMotion for migration.

Welcome to the Community,

what you basically need for vMotion are at least two ESXi hosts, and vCenter Server with at least "Essentials Plus" licensing. In addition to this you'll have to setup vMotion in the ESXi hosts' network. Although vSphere 5.5 and newer allow to live migrate both (host and storage), vMotion is usually used with the VMs stored on shared storage.

so basically i need vCenter to use Vmotion for migration. one more thing Can i use Vmotion with Vsphere client or i need Vsphere Web Client ?

You need vCenter server for vMotion.You cannt perform the vMotion with vSphere client or Web Client ! !

Both will work, as long as you are logged in to the vCenter Server instance, i.e. not the ESXi host directly.
