How to start Virtual Appliance from within vSphere Client

Have vSphere Client connected to the VCenter Server, with two hosts.

All works fine - VMs can be created, migrated, all that.

Would like to make a new VM from a Virtual Appliance.

I've already downloaded it (Ubuntu 10.4 Server VA) and uncompressed it.

All the files are there ready to use, on the same machine that's running vSphere Client.

Just don't know how to use the VA.  I can start VAs in VMware Player, but that's not my goal.

Want to configure/start them in vSphere Client, and then migrate the VA from one host to another.

Thanks.

From the listed files it looks like a Workstation/Player image. What you can do is to use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to convert the VM to your ESXi host.

Welcome to the Community,

in which format did you receive the VA? In case of OVF/OFA you can import it from the "File" menu in the vSphere Client.

I received it in a zipped file.

Uncompressed, it resulted in the following files:

Ubuntu_12.10_Desktop_32Bit.nvram
Ubuntu_12.10_Desktop_32Bit.plist
Ubuntu_12.10_Desktop_32Bit.vmsd
Ubuntu_12.10_Desktop_32Bit.vmx
Ubuntu_12.10_Desktop_32Bit.vmxf
Vitrtual Disk.vmdk
vmware.log
