hello !
We need to get information about the current state of physical hard drives of a ESX Host / vCenter.
This server is a HP ML350 G5 (so iLo can't get Hard drives status (not before G6))
We hadn't find this informations with IPMI or SNMP.
Is there a way to get those informations ?
Thank you
Hello,
IMHO, this should be helpful.
Best regards,
Pablo
Hi TheBurn,
When you say you want to get information, what all information you are looking for?
Thanks,
Hi V,
the information we need to know would one which could show us that physical drive number 1 (for example) is down.
Here is the case:
"If a physical hard drive goind down with RAID 5, esx will not see it because it's using VMFS and so, with raid 5, it will work with one drive less."
>> We need to know if a physical hard drive is either OK or DOWN in way to change it in case it is DOWN.
Okay I guess it is achievable through PowerCLI script. But unfortunately I am not a scripting guy, not sure how to help here.
Ok, thank you. We'll have a look at PowerCLI a bit more.
But if someone as another idea, it'll be always great
Hello
The VC can monitor all ESX and send emails with hardware status alerts and more.
Look at the following pictures:
All ESX / ESXi incorporate sensors that constantly monitor the status of the hypervisor and the hardware.
Look this article: VMware KB: Inaccurate Monitoring and Health Status seen in VI Client, vSphere Client, VirtualCenter,...

Ok, so it would be only with an instance of VC running on and not ESX alone if I've mind well ?
>> I've answered myself by testing.
But there aren't any "storage" section in our ESX hardware
NOp error:
Look this article: VMware KB: Inaccurate Monitoring and Health Status seen in VI Client, vSphere Client, VirtualCenter,...
The sensors are built into the ESX itself. Therefore, if you connect directly to ESX only see the same thing:
The difference is that in the ESX can not configure the email sending.

Ok, thank you.
And, would it be possible for an esx server to haven't those systems informations ?
Anyway, we'll have a look on this so I mark your 1st answer as correct answer
No, all versions of ESXi, have these sensors.

I've got an example here, by searching for those menus.
With our IBM Blade Systems, we've got all storage health
But not for HP and Dell servers (also with same version of esx)

Hi Daniel,
Yes, There aren't any compatibilities between G5 and ESX 5.5.
But we can use 5.0.3 with ML 350 G5 instead of the esx 4.x
Buenas,
Si es cierto, me había fijado solo en la pestaña del 5.5... Ok, pues metele la 5.0U3 entonces
