How to repleace disks?

We are running vSpehre 5.5 (free edition) with two RAIDS and two (non-RAID) SATA disks (Disk 1 and Disk X1).

The RAIDs are connected with a LSI controller, Disk1 and Disk2 are connected with the onboard

Sata controler (Supermicro).

For backup we use Trilead (today HPE VM Explorer, licensed version). The backup files are saved on Disk1.

Additionally we copy the backup files from Disk1 to Disk X1 (also with Trilead) and plan to keep Disk X1 out of office.

How can we take Disk X1 out of the server without shutting the server down? We tried to unmount Disk X1,

then we removed it and replaced it by another Disk X2 and mounted Disk X2. However, we don't succeed to activate Disk X2.

Is it possible to realize the solution, as we planned it? Is it a foolish idea? What better method would you propose?

Thanks for your help, Ulrich

Most SATA hard disks are not hot swap, so you need to SAS and hot swap hard disk on this regard.
