Hey STMR,

What you are trying to accomplish can be done but is not supported by VMware. However I can see the entries for the vmnics in my esx.conf file using vSphere 7.0 u1.

I do not know if changing that it will change and unfortunately I cannot test it.

What is your use case for this?

Hey, hope you are doing fine:

Be careful with that, I know it's not supported by VMware so if you break anything pretty much you are on your own. But other than that it is possible that some services or features have vmnic names hardcoded and stop working correctly after renaming.

Out of curiosity, why would you need to rename the VMnics?

Warm regards
