How to remap datastores from iscsi to fc (to esxi hosts)

Hello,

till now we've used our Hitachi SAN AMS2100 only with ISCSI protocol.

Now we've connected the SAN also via FC connection to the Vmware infrastructure.

The SAN is presenting 9 LUNs (1TB each) with several VMs (production) on them.

The question is: are there any safe procedure the can help to "remap" the datastores without moving out the VM to another SAN ?

Example: is it possible to unmap the datastore via Iscsi (without destroying it) and then remap it via FC discovery ?

This will avoid VM migrations, obviously the VM will be powered off when detaching the iscsi mapping, but can they remain registered in vcenter, or we have to re-register them?

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Hi bruno,

Changing the protocol from iscsi to fc can be done without reregistering the vms from inventory.

Put the hosts in maintenace mode

1. Zone the FC adaptors of Initiator and target (single initaor and target)

2. Capture the vm inventory using rvtools this will be helpfull incase iff vms are orphan

3. Present the storage through fc

4. Rescan the adaptors

I have tested this for netap fas series storage and it worked without any issue.
