How to recreate teh file esxconsole.vmdk

Hello,

I removed the file "esxconsole.vmdk" and without this file the ESX 4 do not start, how can I recreate/recover this file ?

Can I retreive the file from another ESX 4 server ?

Best regards.

If you do not have any data on ESX Box, it is better to re-install ESX or To re-create esxconsole.vmdk please perform a scripted installation of ESX 4.0 and preserve your exsisting datastore. if the ESX installation is on a SAN Lun then you can present that Lun to some other ESX server and try this KB http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1004232 . This will help only if you have only deleted the .vmdk (descriptor) not the data disk.

Thanks,

Samir

Thank you Samir,

I recreated the file in a current directory different than the "/vmfs/..../esxconsole-..." with the command:

vmkfstools -c 7974420480 -d thin -a buslogic esxconsole.vmdk

I copied the created file "esxconsole.vmdk" to the "/vmfs/..../esxconsole-..." and removed the file "esxconsole-flat.vmdk".

I tested that on a test system and this resolve my problem, for the moment I can not reboot the prod server.

Best regards.

Hello,

I removed the file "esxconsole-flat.vmdk" created by the vmkfstools command, not the original file :).

Best regards.
