How to move vm from free to paid esxi?

I am new to Vmware. I have a free esxi host and have just built 2 new server hosts with paid vsphere4 essentials. I want to move my THIN provisioned vm's from the free esxi to the paid  servers and maintain the THIN disks. I can move it with fastscp but the disks end up thick!!!!. I also have Vcenter server.

Please help, how do I move the vms and keep thin provisioning?

Regards,

Graham

If you have the essentials bundle, you're entitled to use up to 3 esx/esxi hosts. If you have built 2 new licensed hosts, you can use the last license for the free esxi and join the ex-free esxi to the cluster, and then through vcenter use the Migrate function.

Welcome to the Community,

you can either use the VMware Converter or export/import the VM's as OVF.

Thanks everyone for your advice

Licensing the free esxi  sounds good to me.  Overnight as I was thinking of this problem, I thought that it might be a possible solution so it is good to hear that it will work.  I only need the license until I get them off the current server as it will become my Veeam backup and replication server and then all should be well.

Next question... will it be a problem that the current free server is 4.0 and not 4.1?

No problem at all. vCenter 4.1 is able to handle older ESX(i) versions.
