HI,
We have 5 Host in a cluster but host are of different CPU models and cores.I want to make VMotion works across all hosts. Thanks
Host | CPU Model | Speed | Cores per CPU | Current EVC | Max EVC | ESX Version | Vendor | Model |
ESXi005 | Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz | 2,393 | 4 | intel-westmere | VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-1117900 | Dell Inc. | PowerEdge R710
ESXi006 | Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz | 2,393 | 4 | intel-westmere | VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-1117900 | Dell Inc. | PowerEdge R710
ESXi007 | Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz | 2,393 | 4 | intel-westmere | VMware ESXi 5.5.0 build-1746018 | Dell Inc. | PowerEdge R710
ESXi008 | Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2660 0 @ 2.20GHz | 2,199 | 8 | intel-sandybridge | VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-1117900 | Dell Inc. | PowerEdge R620
ESXi010 | Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2670 v2 @ 2.50GHz | 2,499 | 10 | intel-ivybridge | VMware ESXi 5.5.0 build-1746018 | Dell Inc. | PowerEdge R620 |

Hi
create EVC cluster...
Look for example here: http://buildvirtual.net/vsphere-5-configuring-evc
and or here: http://www.virtualizemydc.ca/2013/10/25/vmotion-virtual-machines-between-clusters-with-different-hos...
Hello vmk2014,
If you want the flexibility to mix clusters/migrate VMs between hosts of different CPU generations, activate EVC using the lowest common denominator, which is Westmere in this case. While enabling EVC, you need to power off all the VM's and keep the host in maintenance mode.
Hi,
Thanks to all.I saw the links. Just to confirm Still i need to shutdown the VM's if i create new empty Cluster and enable EVC mode and then VMotion the VM's ? Thanks
thanks

Hi,
When you create a EVC cluster, You will not able to add any host to it with a power on VM. What you need to do is, Power off all the VM's add host to EVC cluster and power on vms back. you need to do this with all the hosts which you want to add to EVC cluser. Please read this link it will be helpful
Thanks,
DJ
If you need more details about EVC, Read these links.
Thanks,
DJ
Hi,
yes it is needed to shutdown the VMs before they get loaded with new set of CPU masks on boot-time for your given Enhanced vMotion state.
