How to make VMotion works among different CPU cores

HI,

We have 5 Host in a cluster but host are of  different  CPU models and  cores.I want to make VMotion works across all hosts. Thanks

Hello vmk2014,

If you want the flexibility to mix clusters/migrate VMs between hosts of different CPU generations, activate EVC using the lowest common denominator, which is Westmere in this case. While enabling EVC, you need to power off all the VM's and keep the host in maintenance mode.

Hi,

When you create a EVC cluster, You will not able to add any host to it with a power on VM. What you need to do is, Power off all the VM's add host to EVC cluster and power on vms back. you need to do this with all the hosts which you want to add to EVC cluser. Please read this link it will be helpful

Hi,

yes it is needed to shutdown the VMs before they get loaded with new set of CPU masks on boot-time for your given Enhanced vMotion state.
