How to extend VMDK file while virtual machine is power ON State?

I had production environment machine , i need to extend the size of C: drive with out downtime , please give me suggetion

Dell has a great tool for this called EXT Part - have a look here:

First be sure that no snapshot exist in the VM.

Then extend the vmdk from VM properties.

Then use extpart if you have a pre Windows 2008 server or use disk management from Windows 2008.

I tried finding the Dell utility and kept getting a 404 error.

Anyway, there is another one that I've used in the past called GParted.
