How to connect machines to network with only 1 mac?

Hello there,

I've a problem and can't solve it by myself. I have a root server and wanted to use esxi 5.1 as I'm more flexible. My problem: I've only 1 physical mac and IP available. So my first VM should be a NAT one like pfSense. But i don't get the connection. Even if I install a simple Debian I can't get any network connection.

I have: 1 vSwitch0 and one VMkernel-Port (vmk0) connected to my physical adapter vmnic1.

What should I do to get a vm connected? Sould I add another switch on vSwitch0 or another switch1 with a new card 0? I want to use pfSense for NATing as there is no other possibility to get more vm's connected to the 1 network with it's 1 mac.

Any help would be much apreciated.

Hi,

As you know, virtual switches are working same as physical switches on layer 2, ports communications are based on MAC. So it's impossible.

You can install a server such as Windows server 2008 and use "Remote Access Services" and NAT for other your clients.

Davoud.

So there is really no possibility to get an esxi running when my privder has port security enabled which is allowing only 1 mac from the host?

Welcome to the Community - If you are providing your Internet Provider with the physical MAC address that is the problem - what you will need to do is provide the provider the MAC address of VM running the firewall - it is this MAC address that the IP packets use -
