How to configure more than 8 Virtual CPUs

I have a 2 socket host with 8 cores per socked for 16 total cores and would like to configure 14 cores in one VM, but I seem to be limited to a max of 8 cores. I only have one VM on the host and it is SLES11 SP3 and the ESXi level is 5.5 with Enterprise Plus licensing.  Should this be possible, and how does one configure this if so?

I won't ask why you think you need a 14 vCPU VM, but yes this should be possible with Enterprise+ licensing and as long as the VM is using at least virtual hardware version 8. Is that the case? You can configure it just as usual with the edit settings dialogue.

If Logical processor count is 16 , you should be able to create 14 vcpu vm. Can you check in vsish node how many logical processor is coming?

Thanks for the help, the VM is on hardware level 7 so I'll try upgrading to 8 and see if that allows me to configure.

Hardware version 7 allows only 8 vCPU... higher hardware version supports 32 and 64 vCPUs.
