How to choose an additional SATA controller that will be recognized by ESXi

Hi.

I'd like to solve this issue.

I've just purchased an HP Proliant ML 30 Gen 10 server that as an embedded software RAID controller that is not supported by ESXi.

At this point I'd like to install on the server an addiditonal SATA controller (not RAID) PCIe card to wich connect a SATA drive so that the hard drive will be recognized by ESXi .

The questions are:

  1. is it possibile this?
  2. and, if yes, is there anyone that colud suggest to me wich additional SATA card purchase? (I know that there is the VMWare HCL but there are tons of manufacturer and model and is hard to find the right...)

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

Many Intel SATA controllers are in the HCL. Majority are the built-in SATA controllers on the motherboard.

It might not be recognising the SATA drives if the software RAID is enabled in the UEFI/BIOS. Switch it to AHCI mode/turn off RAID in the UEFI and I think the ESXi installation would be able to recognise the SATA drives connected to the SATA ports of the motherboard. So you might not need to purchase another SATA controller if this is the case.
