I have a VSphere 4.1 ESXi 4.1 host that I need to change the hostname. So I go into VSphere, highlight the host, put into maint mode, goto configuraton, DNS and Routing, make the new hostname change and reboot, bring it out of maint mode and the hostname on the console of the ESXi host says the NEW hostname, in DNS & Routing it says the NEW hostname,  but on the left in Hosts & Clusters view, I still see the OLD hostname...... I try to add the new hostname and it says it already exists.  Is there something I missed >??>

the name gets remember in the vcenter DB. one of the way is to remove it and add again to the vcenter.

you need to re-register your host to make it see the new name.
