How to assign specific network bandwidth for a VM?

Dear all,

In case where there is a VM hosting real-time applications, it is better to reserve the network bandwidth for that VM.

As you know, we can assign the number of CPU cores for a VM as well as the memory capacity, but I wonder how to assign specific network bandwidth for a virtual machine in ESXi 5.0. I didn't find the entry in ESXi's "resource allocation" and "configuration" tab.

Does ESXi support this feature?

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

If you have Enterprise Plus license you could use Distributed Switches, where you can set shares on portgroups in very much the same way as on CPU and RAM.

(Called Network IO Control - NIOC, introduced in 4.1 and more features added in 5.0.)
