How does a Datastore size can be Measured ?
A. Virtual Machine Size
B. Vitual Disk File Size
Please explain the reason with your Answer.
Appreciate for the earlier response. I will post more questions for knowledge sharing ..
Are you asking how to size a datastore or to understand how a datastore size is measured in terms of space consumed, space allocated etc?
Hi Abhilash,
Thanks for your Response.
They have asked the question like this,
How does Datastore been measured
1. Virtual Machine Size
2. Virtual Machine Disk Size
3. RTO/RPO,
4. IOPS
1. Virtual Machine Size - It includes Vcpu and Vram
2. Virtual Machine Disk Size - Size of disk in VM
3. RTO/RPO - Refer the article for more information http://searchstorage.techtarget.com/feature/What-is-the-difference-between-RPO-and-RTO-from-a-backup...
4. IOPS - Read / write IOPS refer to the number of input /output written / read per second by VM server from disk.
Hi San, so the answer is ...?
Can anyone say that, What will be the size of the datastore of the Virtual Machine.
Whether Datastore size = Virtual Machine Size or Datastore size = Virtual Machine Disk Size
Urgent Pls,...
Yes Abilash..
Could you please help me.
HI,
There are multiple factors that you need to consider while sizing the datastore .
1- What kind of storage/disk pool have you configured in storage , from which the data LUN will be published ?
2- Have you configured the swap file location for VMs at same place where VMDK are or at other place ?
3- How much is the memory over-commitment on cluster , which will cause memory reclamation ( balooning ) ?
4- Do application in Guest OS is IO intensive ?
5- Are you going to use seperate SCSI controller for different file system in Guest OS ?
6- Have you tweek the queue depth and write session in ESXi ?
7- What density are you planning for VMs on ESXi ?
Hope this could help you !!
Datastore is a vmfs volume where you can store one or more virtual machines.
The size of the datastore can be 2 TB and if it contains 'n' number of virtual machine with there own individual sizes.
the sum total should be less that 2 TB.
