How can i install ESXi 4.1 u1 at my Proliant HP ML110-G7?

I'm planning to use this server with VM 4.1 u1 for installing the Firewall.

the problem is...

The VM cannot find my server controller...

I'm using two Hard drives for mirroring each other. config is Raid 1+0

Could you guys help me? i got fewer ideas but it's not working.

Hello,

If you have chosen the on-board controller with RAID : no

Reason:

VMware wants either a single disk to the on Board Controller in plain IDE Mode (no AHCI nor RAID) or - the better solution - use a SmartArray P212 or P410 with Flash or Battery Backed Write Cache (P212/256MB with BBWC or P410/512MB with BBWC for example).

As I've installed ESXi 4.1 on several ML110G6 and ESXi 5.0 on several ML110G6 and G7 (customer not willing to pay a certified server...) I've made this expirience.

Furthermore the ML110G7 has an SD-Card Slot on the Mainboard, you can install ESXi on an 4GB SD Card too if you want.

And last but not least - use ESXi 5 and you can use the HP VMware Image with the CIM Providers for system status informations.

Ok.

But the problem is that i need the raid support.

why?

I'm going got the second HD cause i was needing a mirror for emergencies...

one partition fails, then comes the mirror and it's ok.

that's the purpose of all this.

But the problem's that Vmware ESXi 4.1 U1 does not support my ML110-G7 yet...
there still need a driver to get work... the controller one...

Hello,

If you need RAID Support you CANNOT use the on board Controller because they are and will remain unsupported by VMware.

You must use a real, by VMware supported RAID Controller.

For example the HP P212, P410, or Adaptec 6xxx, 5xxx or 3xxx Series (refer to the VMware HCL here http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=io).

If you want "just" RAID Mirroring without RAID 5 or 6 Support, you can use the cheap Adaptec 2405.

If your Storage Controller is not seen by ESXi (like the Intel on-board RAID), you cannot install ESXi on this.
