Host update Utility in Lockdown Mode

I'm trying to use the host update utility on an ESXi4 server. The server in question is in lockdown mode, the update utility asks for an admin account in order to scan/perform the patching. No matter which ID I give it I can't perform the initial scan.

Is the only way to patch this server to take off lockdown mode? 😕

Cheers

Steve

Lockdown mode prevents direct access to the host. You must use vCenter to update or remove lockdown.

Is there a plugin for vcenter that does the updates? I've not found a way of disabling lockdown mode in vcenter, am I missing something obvious?

Did you install Update Manager?

You can enable or disable Lockdown Mode for each host. Select the host Configuration Tab -> Security Profile.

Thanks, I've found that now. I've always looked in the direct attached client rather than the vcenter client.

Have also now installed update manager in vcenter.

Thanks for your help Smiley Happy
