Host Profile - Domain Join Issue

vSphere 6.0 U2

I have a Host Profile that defines AD domain membership. When I remediate a host it joins the domain OK. However if you then perform a subsequent remediation it fails with the error:

"The operation cannot be performed while the host is part of a Windows domain."

Removing the host from the domain allows the remediation to run again - but only once, then you are back to the same error.

This has not been the behaviour I have observed in the past, where once it is a member of the domain the host profile does not try to rejoin at every remediation.

Anyone got a clue what is going on?

Thanks
Mark

I think you have misread the problem.

The issue is not that it fails to join the domain, but that the Host Profile tries to force the host to re-join when it is already a member of the domain.

If the host profile is going to alter any DNS related configuration i.e. DNS servers, Domain Name, Domain Search etc. you get that error message and the work around is to dis-join the host from Domain and re-apply the host profile that will also re-join the ESXi host back to the Domain.
