[Homelab-7.0] Nested virtualization is crashing vmx on Intel Nuc

Hello,

I recently reinstalled ESXi 7.0 in my homelab on my Intel NUC NUC7i3BNH.

If you install a VM with an hypervisor inside and then start a VM it will immediately crash the VM with an error : VMware ESX unrecoverable error : VM-entry failed; VMCS valid (error code 8). Virtualization is enabled on the processor and on the VM having the nested hypervisor.

Can somebody with a NUC confirm whether or not I am the only one ??

It works with ESXi 6.7 as a primary hypervisor though, just not with 7.0 and I wonder if there is a workaround.

Let me know,

John

Hi Alessandro,

Thanks for your answer.

Running ESXi 7.0 is fine on the NUC, no issues.

However, I cannot do nested virtualization anymore : ESXi 7.0 -> Whaterver Hypervisor (ESXi, AHV, Hyper-V) -> VM.

Regards,
