What version of ESXi are you running and what level of VMware tools is installed on the VM's in question?
VM Version = vmx-09
Tools Version Status = Current
Is it in Nested Environment or Production setup running on physical HW?
>>Can you check the Network Adapter driver/fw version on both ESXi hosts?
How a physical network adapter can influence on ping between some VM's inside host?

Hosts is HP ProLiant servers (with HP Custom Image for ESXi 5.5.0 U2)
have any ideas about this behavior?
Hi
I have got the same issue on IBM X3650 M4 systems.
ESX5.5U2 current patchlevel, current VMTools, OS is w2k8R2, current patchlevel
vmxnet3 NIC, virtual HW 9, also tried E1000
Both VMs are on the same ESX connected to the same vSwitch, which has no uplink, so no inbound traffic on the vSwitch which may lead to external impact (e.g. massive broadcasts).
I played around with power management in the host's BIOS also in Windows, no success.
ping times go up to 300ms !!!
On my test ESX at home I see 1ms all the time.
I run out of ideas what could cause these high ping response times.
Any ideas are highly welcome
