Hi all,
vCenter 5.0. I have a cluster of esxi hosts.
Recently I encounter error with one of the hosts (esxi 5.0):
Cannot power on cloned VM: An expected error was received from the ESX host while powering on VM. Reason: insufficient permission to access file. Cannot open the disk '/vmfs...... Server2.vmdk'
I checked the NFS datastore and here is the permission:
/vmfs/volumes/3fef6db3-f1d37048 # ls -l Server2/
-rw------- 1 root root 42949672960 Mar 14 04:07 Server2-flat.vmdk
-rw------- 1 root root 8684 Mar 14 04:00 Server2.nvram
-rw------- 1 root root 543 Mar 14 04:07 Server2.vmdk
-rw-r--r-- 1 nfsnobod nfsnobod 0 Mar 14 04:07 Server2.vmsd
-rwxr-xr-x 1 nfsnobod nfsnobod 2959 Mar 14 06:03 Server2.vmx
-rw-r--r-- 1 nfsnobod nfsnobod 262 Mar 14 04:09 Server2.vmxf
-rw------- 1 root root 383229 Mar 14 04:00 vmware-81.log
-rw------- 1 root root 111821 Mar 14 04:00 vmware-82.log
-rw------- 1 root root 521440 Mar 14 04:00 vmware-83.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 nfsnobod nfsnobod 52048 Mar 14 04:10 vmware-84.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 nfsnobod nfsnobod 52066 Mar 14 04:10 vmware-85.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 nfsnobod nfsnobod 52066 Mar 14 06:01 vmware-86.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 nfsnobod nfsnobod 52066 Mar 14 06:03 vmware.log
Server2 is a clone from other VM, and I notice the Server2 directory is owned by "nfsnobody"
It looks like that particular host changed from accessing the NFS datastore as root to nfsnobody. Therefore of course it cannot the read the vmdk file as the permission is rw-------.
What is causing this and how to solve it?
Thanks in advance
