Sorry if this is in the wrong section, the VMware forums are the most complicated i've ever seen, it's very hard to get around and figure how to post. i finally found a place to post after clicking everywhere.

Anyway, I'm trying to do a P2V and when I enter the vsphere server and my credentials I get an error that it can't connect. I did a packet sniff to confirm the port number to be 443, so I even specified that. I can telnet to the port from the laptop so I know it's not the firewall.

On the same machine install and try to use vSphere Client to connect to your system (is ESX/ESXi or vCenter?).

If you can't login then it is a firewall problem.

I don't want to be installing stuff on this PC as it will be used as a base image but being able to connect to the port rules out a network issue. Is there maybe other ports i should test too? Seems it only uses https though, according to wireshark.

Install the Converter Standalone on the Laptop and do the conversion. Installing locally is the preferred method according to VMware best practices.

Have you tried the Cold Clone CD tool?

No did not, where would I find the ISO for that? I'll give it a try.

The Cold clone CD is on the vCenter download page. You will need to log in.
