Has anyone used wake-on-lan to remotely power on a VM?

Hi,

So pretty much as above - just wondering if anyone have found a way to remotely power a VM (can be cluster, standalone whatever) from outside the vSphere/web client.

We have imaging software (citrix PVS) which has a facility to automate the image updates but to do this we need to remotely power on the "update" VM from the console.

At PVS console it gives a "success" message but nothing happens at the hypervisor level.

Details

vSphere 5.0 update 2

Wake-on-lan is supported on the NIC's we use

In our instance the PVS server is on the same network and host as the update VM, firewall is unloaded on both the PVS server and update VM

Have enabled the wake-on-lan tickbox for the NIC under the properties.

ANY suggestions appreciated!

I think you may be better off using PowerCLI or vCLI to start a VM.
