Hardware virtualisation doesn't work?

Hi!

I run ESXi4 on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ on an ASUS M2N-E mainboard.

After a BIOS update the option to enable hardware virtualisation appeared in BIOS, which I enabled. Still I cannot enable PCI passthrough ("The host doesn't support passthrough configuration")

Thanks for your ideas Smiley Happy

Hardware virtualization is only one aspect.

But this does not mean that if you have it you can also use VMDirectPath, for this function there are also some motherboard requirements:

http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsp_4_vmdirectpath_host.pdf

And for FT there are other requirements.

Hi!

Thanks for the link - unfortunately I cannot find any mainboard requirements in it...

Are you 100% sure that CPU supports AMD-V? I'm not sure that it does.

Due to a bug in the original AMD-V implementation, VMware products only support AMD-V in Family 10H and later CPUs. I believe your CPU may be Family 0FH.

From what I have read, the system that you want to use VMDirectPath on pretty much has to have be the latest everything.

Thanks, I'll order a CPU and will let you know if this was the cause.
